SUMMARY

Reacher season three will be based on Lee Child’s novel, Persuader, and will see the protagonist going undercover.
Reacher will work unofficially with the DEA and operate largely alone, showcasing his loner persona.
The series has been a hit on Prime Video and has been named the number one series on the platform for 2023.

It has now been revealed which Lee Child novel the third season of Amazon’s Reacher will be based on, and thus we can start to glean some clues regarding the plot.

According to Deadline, Reacher season three will be based on the seventh book by Child, Persuader, meaning that audiences will see Alan Ritchson’s action hero going undercover to rescue an informant. Which certainly sounds like all kinds of fun. A short logline for the synopsis has also now been released.

“Reacher must go undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past.”

And you can read the more detailed synopsis of the novel below.

“Jack Reacher. The ultimate loner. An elite ex-military cop who left the service years ago, he’s moved from place to place…without family…without possessions…without commitments.

And without fear. Which is good, because trouble–big, violent, complicated trouble–finds Reacher wherever he goes. And when trouble finds him, Reacher does not quit, not once…not ever.

But some unfinished business has now found Reacher. And Reacher is a man who hates unfinished business.

Ten years ago, a key investigation went sour and someone got away with murder. Now a chance encounter brings it all back. Now Reacher sees his one last shot. Some would call it vengeance. Some would call it redemption. Reacher would call it…justice.”

The novel, and therefore likely the series, will find Reacher working unofficially with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and working largely alone. Which is no doubt just the way he likes it. Reacher star Alan Ritchson has since taken to social media to confirm the news, congratulating those who guessed that season three would take inspiration from Persuader.

As well as revealing the plot, it has also now been confirmed that Maria Sten will reprise the role of Frances Neagley in the third season after featuring in both seasons of the show so far.

The third season of Reacher is currently filming, with Ritchson revealing our first look at the series via Instagram.

Beginning in 2022, the first season of Reacher introduces Ritchson as the title character, a former U.S. Army Military Police Major now living as a nomad who suddenly finds himself dragged back into action when he is arrested for murder.

The second season, which is based on the 11th book in author Lee Child’s renowned series of novels, picks up with the titular character who, after members of his old military unit start turning up dead, has just one thing on his mind: revenge.

Reacher has been a huge hit for Prime Video, receiving widespread acclaim for its accurate adaptation of the character as well as boasting high viewing figures. Reacher has since been named the number one series on Amazon Prime Video for 2023.
