While Reacher Season 2 just came to an explosive conclusion on Jan. 18 — no spoilers here if you’re not caught up — the people who make the show are already looking forward to Season 3.

Prime Video renewed the action drama based on the novels of author Lee Child before Season 2 even premiered. And, according to Child, fans can anticipate finding out which book Season 3 will be adapted from pretty soon.

“We’ve picked it up, it’s chosen,” Child, who is an executive producer on the hit series, confirmed to The Messenger in an interview before the Season 2 finale. “It’s a good choice, I gotta say. I think we’ve been very creative about how we’ve sequenced the type of story.”

Season 1 was based on the first Reacher novel, Killing Floor, and told a story about Reacher and his birth family as he tried to solve the murder of his brother.

Season 2 jumped ahead to the 11th Reacher novel, Bad Luck and Trouble, and was about Reacher and his work family, as he reunited with members of his old Army unit to find who seemed to be picking them off. So the logical next step is Reacher truly on his own, as he often is in the books.

“We felt we needed a book that was more Reacher alone for the third season,” Child said. “And so it was a question of which story would work best for that, and which one would have a great opening scene and all of that, and we found one that we loved.”

There are 27 novels about Jack Reacher left to choose from, and they all have great opening scenes, so we can’t predict which one it will be based on that alone. But we’re looking forward to finding out.

Season 3 is already in production. There was a nearly two-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2, so hopefully the early renewal means Season 3 will come sooner.

Reacher is available to stream on Prime Video.
