Reacher star Alan Ritchson will be revisiting his first major TV series role in a new sequel series.

Thad Newton Jack Reacher Alan Ritchson

Alan Ritchson is currently in the midst of his run playing Jack Reacher in Amazon’s hit series Reacher, but the actor has not forgotten his roots.

Per Deadline, it’s been revealed that Blue Mountain State has a sequel series in the works. While Alan Ritchson made his acting debut with limited appearances as Aquaman in Smallvillehis first major role was as one of the main stars of the Lionsgate TV series Blue Mountain State.

The series delved into college life with Ritchson played Kevin “Thad” Castle, a star player of the university football team, the Mountain Goats. The show ran for three seasons on Spike and would later develop a cult following with its availability on streaming.

The sequel series will bring back Alan Ritchson to reprise his role as Thad. Other confirmed cast members returning from the original show include Darin Brooks and Chris Romano, who respectively played quarterback Alex Moran and team mascot Sampson “Sammy” Cacciatore.

The original series was created by Romano and Eric Falconer, with the latter also expected to return for the new show. Storyline details have not yet been revealed.

Where Will the Blue Mountain State Sequel Series Land?

Reportedly, the Blue Mountain State sequel series doesn’t yet have a set home for where it will stream. There are two likely candidates for its home, however. Prime Video is a likely destination, as the streaming platform has garnered incredibly high viewership with Alan Ritchson’s Reacher series.

Meanwhile, the original Blue Mountain State was previously very popular on Netflix where it found a new life, making that another viable option. Negotiations are said to be ongoing at this time.

Before rising to greater fame with his role on Reacher, Alan Ritchson had reprised his role as Thad in the Blue Mountain Universe once before. In 2016, he starred in a one-off sequel film dubbed Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland; he also served as a producer and co-wrote the film with Eric Falconer and Chris Romano.

The movie was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign before it was released by Lionsgate. It picked up after the events of the third and final season of the TV show, and imagined Alex Moran (Darin Brooks) throwing a party for Thad Castle, who’d just been drafted into the NFL, in order to get him to buy the Goat House.
