Brad Pitt was criticized for wanting to adapt Britney Spears’ memoir

Less than a month after ‘The Woman in Me’ was released to readers, a battle for the rights to adapt this book into a movie began with the participation of movie star Brad Pitt.

The Woman in Me, the shocking memoir of “Pop princess” Britney Spears, was released on October 24. The book contains shocking details about the 42-year-old singer’s personal life – including her relationship with Justin Timberlake and her custody battle.

In its first week of release, The Woman in Me sold more than 1 million copies in the US, topping The New York Times’ best-selling non-fiction book chart.

According to PageSix, movie star and film producer Brad Pitt is among the celebrities vying for the chance to adapt Spears’ story to the big screen. Reese Witherspoon and Margot Robbie are also on the list of those interested in the project, sources told the US daily.

However, Pitt’s intentions faced criticism. Some users of social network fake.

“Really sick of him producing She Said, Blonde and Women Talking… there is a pattern to ‘rehabilitating’ his image as a feminist and a leader of women’s stories” , one user posted a scathing Tweet.

“Brad Pitt constantly puts his name in stories about the exploitation and abuse of women, to me that is a kind of crime,” another commented.

For years, Pitt has faced accusations of collaborating with convicted molester Harvey Weinstein, even as the Fight Club star knew about the media mogul’s bad behavior.

Pitt has denied having a close relationship with Weinstein in the past. With Killing Them Softly (2012) – distributed by The Weinstein Company – a close source revealed that the film was managed through CAA, meaning Pitt and Weinstein did not work directly.

Weinstein is also the distributor of Inglourious Basterds (2009) directed by Quentin Tarantino, starring Pitt. But the actor had very little contact with Weinstein throughout production.

In a 2018 interview, Gwyneth Paltrow revealed that Pitt once “threatened to kill” Weinstein after the producer inappropriately touched her at a work exchange in 1994.

In addition, Pitt recently faced accusations of abuse from his ex-wife Angelina Jolie. The Maleficent star accused Pitt of assaulting her and her children on a private plane in 2016.

Pitt’s representative called Jolie’s accusations “completely false.” After an investigation by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and LAPD, the actor was found not guilty.

Last week, news outlet The Ankler said Spears was “overwhelmed by the positive response” to her book and the “media frenzy surrounding it”.

This caused the singer’s team of assistants to “pause making any important decisions about copyright until she has time to catch her breath.”

According to this source, Britney Spears was scheduled to meet with an unnamed film producer but the appointment was canceled at the last minute because she “didn’t feel interested”.
