The incident that took place at the 2009 Video Music Awards between Kanye West and Taylor Swift is one of the most talked about scandals to take place in the history of the Video Music Awards.

Swift walked on stage to accept her award before Kanye West stormed and interrupted her speech to say that Queen B; Beyoncé should have won it instead.
MTV has reportedly removed the official footage of the entire incident but it has been glued to people’s minds ever since.
While Kanye was dubbed as a pop culture villain after the incident, his then-partner had an entirely different take on the matter. Let’s find out.

Amber Rose says Kanye West was telling the truth; Beyoncé did deserve to win at 2009 VMAs
Amber Rose, who dated Kanye West from 2008 to 2010, appeared in a recent interview with ET’s Diedre Behar to discuss her clothing line MUVA.
She ended up addressing the infamous incident at the 2009 Video Music Award when West stormed on stage and grabbed the mic from Taylor Swift. The rapper ended up interrupting Swift, and said the following:
“Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!”
Rose said,

“I don’t want to say the wrong thing because I love Taylor Swift, she’s amazing. Was he wrong for going on stage? Absolutely.
Was he telling the truth? He was telling the truth. Beyoncé deserved that award bit you can’t take it from somebody else.”
The model continued to explain by stating that Swift was not at fault. She claimed that after Kanye came back to his seat, the authorities quickly came over.
He was taken to another room for a conversation while Rose was left sitting in her chair. According to VOX, Kanye West was shocked that he was asked to leave.
Amber Rose says Kanye West was remorseful for his actions
The former girlfriend of the artist claimed that West was immediately regretful about the incident. His gesture was not supposed to be aimed at Swift and was merely a bid to show support for Beyonce, instead.
“He instantly felt bad because it wasn’t about Taylor at all, it wasn’t like I think the media made it seem like he was picking on her and stuff. He wasn’t, he was just standing up for Beyoncé.”
Kanye West believed Beyoncé’s Single Ladies should have won
Rose mentioned that West’s intentions at the time were not malicious noting that he just wanted to advocate for his friend Beyoncé’s big accomplishment. She added,
“It was ‘Single Ladies’, I mean, everyone around the world was doing that dance from the video and it was just unfortunate situation. Kanye obviously felt bad he took her moment. He didn’t want to do that to her.”
Kanye West later apologized to Taylor Swift by writing an apology on his blog later that night.
