The Los Angeles Chargers have signed another offensive weapon that will make quarterback Justin Herbert a very happy man.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Los Angeles Chargers are signing veteran running back JK Dobbins to a one-year contract. Dobbins had spent each of his first four years with the Baltimore Ravens.
After playing under John Harbaugh for four years, Dobbins now heads to Los Angeles to play for the other Harbaugh brother, Jim. The Los Angeles Chargers hired the latter as their head coach after he led the Michigan Wolverines to a national championship.
The move is also noteworthy because Dobbins is the second ex-Ravens star RB to join the Chargers this offseason. Last month, the team also signed Gus Edwards to a two-year pact worth $6.5 million.
Dobbins was drafted in the second round (55th overall) by the Ravens in 2020.
Unfortunately, injuries limited Dobbins to 24 games over his four years with Baltimore. He missed the entire 2021 season and suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in Week 1 against the Houston Texans last year.
Dobbins’ best season came in his 2020 rookie year when he rushed for 805 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games.
The Los Angeles Chargers Offense Will Look A Lot Different In 2024
Not only did the Chargers bring in Dobbins and Edwards in the backfield with Austin Ekeler departing, but the pass-catching unit will look considerably different as well.
New Chargers GM Joe Hortiz traded star wideout Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears and cut Mike Williams in a cap-saving move. With the No. 5 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Bolts are in prime position to add another weapon for Justin Herbert.
Los Angeles is rebuilding the roster the way Hortiz and Harbaugh want to see it. And that includes bringing in some of John Harbaugh’s former players over from Baltimore, so it’ll be interesting to see how Dobbins and Edwards fare with their new team.
