The New York Jets dropped back one spot in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings and still got the player they wanted in the first round: Olu Fashanu.

The team picked the former Penn State offensive tackle at No. 11 overall on Thursday night, creating a lifetime memory for the 21-year-old and his ecstatic mother. Fashanu’s mom was seated between the player and his girlfriend when his name was called, and his other half could barely get a piece of him as Mama kept her well out of reach.

Check it out in the clip below:

Fashanu was one of the highest-rated offensive linemen going into the draft and was tipped to potentially go in the first round last year before he chose to play another year in college. He hasn’t allowed a sack in over 650 pass-blocking snaps over the past two seasons, and Aaron Rodgers should be one of the first members of the Jets to welcome him to the team, especially after how his debut ended in 2023.

Caleb Williams Wanted The Chicago Bears To Select Olu Fashanu At No. 9

Caleb Williams was the first overall pick on the night, with the Chicago Bears making him their man. However, the team also had the No. 9 overall pick pocketed, and their new quarterback knew precisely how he wanted them to use it.

I’d probably go Olu Fashanu because I know he’d put his life on the line for me, protecting me,” he said after being asked what he would like to see the team do with their other first-rounder (H/T ProFootballTalk.com. “Then I’d go one of the top three wide receivers.

The Jets will be happy the Bears didn’t take Caleb’s advice. But the QB shouldn’t mind too much, as they’ve gotten him another top offensive weapon in Rome Odunze.
