On Monday (October 30), the North Carolina native dropped a bar-heavy track to mark her return to the rap world. Aside from a few singles and features, the 40-year-old hasn’t been very active since her last full-length studio record in 2019, Eve, which HipHopDX gave a 5/5 score upon its release.

As a nod to her recent comparative inactivity, she shared a snippet of her latest joint on Instagram and captioned it: “Allow me to reintroduce myself….”

“JESUS CHRIST!! [eight mind-blown emojis] LET’S GOOOOOO QUEEN,” Busta Rhymes wrote in the comments section, while Jay Electronica added: “Punish em!”

“They don’t pay me at the level that I rap at, crazy/ If they can’t benefit off you then they act shady,” she spits on the knockout cut that clocks in at just a little over two and a half minutes.

Elsewhere in the song, she raps: “Know my power, I know what my penmanship did/ Drop so many jewels, I couldn’t even put ’em on wrist/ That’s the sacrifice/ When you this nice, they wanna dim your light.”

Last week, the Grammy nominee revealed that her new album is ready to go. The “Sojourner” rapper took to Instagram in late October to post a teaser video narrated by her “BFF” Darin Michelle, in which the latter sings the praises of the rhyme-spitter’s upcoming body of work.

“I just listened to your album again on the way home from the [Erykah] Badu concert,” she says. “And I just — I just needed to say that that shit is so special. It’s so, so, so special. It is like your heart on wax, and I just wanted you to know how special it is. And that’s it.”

In the caption, Rapsody wrote: “‘The hardest step she ever took was to blindly trust in who she was.’ Album done.”
