Australian actor Chris Hemsworth – primarily known for his biceps, and moderately so for playing a Norse god in some mildly popular superhero movies (but, still, mostly his biceps) – is an avid, and surprisingly decent, surfer.

And through surfing, Hemsworth became friends with surfing GOAT, Kelly Slater. So, when Slater was in town for the Australian leg of the Championship Tour, the two got together for a day of surfing – both behind a boat and some step-offs in the open ocean.

About the tandem boat wake surf session, Slater wrote:

“Frontside vs. backside shootout with Chris Hemsworth. Fun day on the river with a fun crew.”

Also joining in on the fun was big-wave surfer Mark Matthews and former CT surfer, Luke Munro.

As mentioned, Hemsworth is well-above average on a surfboard. His social media feed is filled with clips and photos of himself riding waves at home, in wavepools, or at some of the world’s best surf breaks.

Turns out, Hemsworth can throw down some hammers, on the big screen and in the ocean.

Regarding his relationship with surfing, Hemsworth wrote:

“Sport has always been an essential part of my life. I’ve played and watched so many different types over the years. But the one that I’ve always loved the most is surfing. Growing up, my dad would pack my brothers and me in the Kombi van to take the hour-and-a-half ride to the beach to surf.

“Surfing gave me an active lifestyle, but most importantly, it gave me the best memories with my family. Surfing remains a mainstay in my life and has become a part of my identity, and I continue to make memories with my own family in the ocean.”
