In a revelation sparking anticipation, James Wan transformed Aquaman 2’s villain. The acclaimed director, delving into Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, shares insights into Karshon, a character deviating from its comic counterpart.

The sequel unfolds as Arthur Curry confronts Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

While Black Manta traditionally opposes Aquaman in comics, the movie introduces another adversary, Karshon, portrayed by Indya Moore, known as the Shark in the source material.

In comics, the Shark, originating from Green Lantern, gained humanoid form and psychic abilities. However, Wan’s Karshon differs; not a shark character, but a political obstacle from the High Council, creating barriers for King Arthur within the Atlantean political landscape.

As per Empire via The Direct, the filmmaker said, 
“This Karshon is not a shark character. It’s different [from] the comic books in that sense. One of the things we wanted to do, now that Arthur is king of Atlantis, is to give him barriers within the political world. Karshon comes from the High Council, and is like a political roadblock for Arthur.”
