Game of Thrones fame actor Jason Momoa is popularly known for playing roles where his muscled physique says it all. Because of his strong personality, the actor often gets to portray similar roles, where dialogue isn’t necessary as his mere presence is enough. Since Momoa has performed various such roles, he is done with playing the silent character anymore.

Discussing the silent roles, Marvel’s renowned character Drax the Destroyer’s role was offered to Momoa, but he rejected the role for the same reason. During the interview, the actor revealed that he turned down the role because he didn’t want to feel pigeonholed as the ‘brute.’

To appear in a Marvel film is still a dream of many actors, meanwhile, actor Jason Momoa turned down the iconic role of Drax the Destroyer in The Guardian of the Galaxy, claiming that he has performed various roles similar to Drax. During an interview with  Zap2it, Momoa expressed his concern for being typecast for playing silent roles.

Throughout his career, Momoa has appeared in various incredible films, however, in most of them his muscled physique was a main highlight. Fed up with playing the roles with minimal or no dialogue, Momoa turned down Drax’s character. He said,

“I think it’s perfectly cast. Dave [Bautista] is perfect for that role, for Drax. It didn’t really fit in my time because I’ve done so many things where I don’t say much and I’m colored up and I have my shirt off again. I made a conscious choice to turn down some movies that were action-based to direct ‘Road to Paloma’ so people could see that side.”
Although seeing Momoa as Drax would have been interesting, his decision to reject the physically dominant role can’t be argued. However, apart from his monotony and concern about playing the same genre role again and again, Momoa had one more reason to put a halt on similar roles.

Jason Momoa rejected the role of Drax for a personal reason

During the same interview, Jason Momoa reflected on a personal reason for turning down the role in Marvel films. The actor said,
“I want my children to see their father happy. It’s not that it’s not a good role, it just wasn’t the right thing. I was on Stargate: Atlantis for four years playing a similar character called Ronon, who was an alien who didn’t say much and grunted. I’ve been there and done that, whether people have seen it or not. You want to stretch.”
Although Momoa couldn’t find a suitable role in the Marvel franchise, he has already made his appearance in another superhero franchise DCEU. The actor appeared in the titular role of Aquaman in the film of the same role.
