Jaden Smith’s Acts of Charity

Project Zambi

From a tender age, Jaden Smith grew up with instilled noble values to help people. He was 11 years old when he and his sister Willow joined Hasbro Inc.’s Project Zambi as youth ambassadors. The project aimed at raising awareness for the 15 million children left orphaned due to the AIDs epidemic in Africa and around the world. Smith said that he and his sister wanted to represent all the kids in the world who wished to make the world a better place and encourage them by inspiring them to lend a hand in spreading the word. For this initiative, Hasbro launched a special toy called “Furreal friends Zambi the elephant” to raise funds, with a percentage of the proceeds going towards the cause. By purchasing the toy, “consumers will be supporting programs that work directly with children orphaned by AIDS in Africa.”

JUST Water

A 10-year-old Smith witnessed a floating plastic bottle while learning to surf. This was more than enough to motivate Jaden to bring a change. Two years after this incident, he cofounded JUST Water, a 100% sustainably sourced spring water company that uses paper sourced from responsibly managed forests. The packaging consists of 88% plant-based materials, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions by up to 74%.

In 2019, JUST Water collaborated with First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church to implement a water filtration system named “The Water Box.” This initiative aimed to reduce lead and other such contaminants in water supplies. The partnership formed in response to a severe water contamination crisis in Flint, Michigan, United States. In 2020, the company installed four Water Boxes, providing approximately 38,000 gallons of clean water to the city.

Additionally, JUST Water had a successful collaboration with Freedom Skate Park, the first-ever skate park to be created in Ghana in 2022. Through this collaboration, the B Corp-certified business provided water to the project, which aimed at galvanizing skateboarding trends in West Africa. JUST Water also supported the efforts of Operation Good, an organization aimed at providing clean water to the community of Jackson, Mississippi, in response to two disasters that increased the existing water crisis.

MSFTS

In 2011, Smith cofounded MSFTS, a sustainable luxury clothing brand designed to help reduce carbon emissions associated with clothing production. MSFTS actively encourages thrifting, advocating for the reuse of clothing. The brand is well-known for organizing pop-up shops where individuals can bring their garments to have MSFTS designs printed on them. This innovative approach helps in reducing clothing waste by eliminating the need for new purchases.

Conclusion

Jaden Smith’s acts of charity have shown that he cares about the underprivileged.
