Video footage caught Patrick Mahomes’ father’s comments after the two-time NFL MVP quarterback led the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl 57 victory.
For the third time ever, and for the second time in four years, the Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions. On Sunday, Feb. 12, the Chiefs overcame a 24-14 deficit at halftime in Super Bowl 57 to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named MVP of the game after he led the team on four scoring drives in the second half while dealing with an ankle injury.
We’ve heard comments from Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, and head coach Andy Reid about the performance. On Paramount+’s Inside the NFL, cameras caught the conversation Mahomes had with his father, Pat, after the game. Here’s what Mahomes’ dad said.
“Hey, I ain’t ever seen nothing like you! You different,” said Mahomes Sr. “You different. I love you to death, baby. You know I do. Damn, you’re good.”
Patrick Mahomes’ father’s heartfelt message after Super Bowl 57
Mahomes Sr. was pumped after the win. Notably after the Chiefs’ AFC Championship Game win over over the Cincinnati Bengals, Mahomes Sr. said he was “smoking on that Joe Burrow,” i.e. cigars. As he walked through State Farm Stadium after Super Bowl 57, he said he was smoking “Philly blunts this week.”
It was another tremendous performance for the sixth-year quarterback. Prior to the game, Mahomes was named NFL MVP for the second time of his career after leading the league with 5,250 passing yards, 41 passing touchdowns, and an average of 308.8 passing yards per game. The reigning NFL MVP hadn’t won the Super Bowl since the1999 season when Kurt Warner won the award and led the St. Louis Rams to a 23-16 win over the Tennessee Titans.
Of course, it was Mahomes who ended the streak.
The Chiefs offense only had possession of the football for eight minutes in the first half. Add that to Mahomes landing awkwardly on his already injured right ankle, and it felt like all of the momentum was in the Eagles’ favor. But, Mahomes’ ankle was more than fine enough to play, as he led the Chiefs to an incredible comeback.
Three touchdown drives, and a five-minute, game-winning drive ending with a 27-yard field goal made by Harrison Butker.
Mahomes completed 21-of-27 pass attempts for 182 yards and three touchdowns, while running for 44 yards on six carries.
It was yet another great performance by Mahomes, cementing his legacy as one of the best in the game just six years into his NFL career.
