The Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, secured a playoff spot and their eighth consecutive AFC West division title with a victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17. This win ensures that the Chiefs will have a home game in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

However, the victory was not without drama as wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling blamed Mahomes for a dropped pass, claiming it was thrown behind him and resulted in an incompletion.

Mahomes had a solid performance in the game, completing 21 of his 29 passes for 245 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. However, some of his incomplete passes were intended for Valdes-Scantling.

The pivotal moment came late in the first half when the Bengals had a 17-10 lead. On third-and-3, Mahomes targeted Valdes-Scantling, but the receiver signaled that the pass should have been thrown differently, suggesting that Mahomes was off-target.

This incident sparked a reaction from one fan on social media, who made a controversial comment regarding Mahomes potentially being angry with Valdes-Scantling after the game. Various others on social media also shared their thoughts on the exchange.

Valdes-Scantling finished the game with just one reception for three yards, and it’s not the first time he has faced criticism for a dropped pass. He also failed to catch a potential game-winning touchdown pass from Mahomes during a Monday Night Football game earlier in the season.

Despite the drops, Tyreek Hill defended Valdes-Scantling, stating that the catch in question was a difficult one to make.

The Chiefs have struggled with dropped passes throughout the season, and Valdes-Scantling’s numbers have suffered as a result. Last season, he had 42 receptions for 687 yards and two touchdowns, compared to his 21 catches for 315 yards and one touchdown this year.

As pointed out by Fox Sports Analyst Nick Wright, Valdes-Scantling leads the league with ten dropped passes this season. The Chiefs will need to address this issue before their Super Bowl title defense begins, as it could pose a problem for Mahomes and the team in the playoffs.
