Selena Gomez teases new Wizards of Waverly Place revival and insists it’s ‘not a reboot’: ‘It’s gonna be really fun’

Just a month after Disney announced a revival of their beloved series Wizards of Waverly Place, Selena Gomez is opening up about the new series.

Disney Branded Television issued a pilot order for a new series in January, with Gomez, 31, returning as Alex Russo alongside David Henrie as Justin Russo, via Deadline.

While Gomez is only slated to guest star in the pilot, she will also executive produce the series alongside Henrie.

Gomez appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote her new single Love On, where she also teased the new series, admitting it’s ‘not a reboot.’

‘It’s gonna be really fun. I was excited to bring the characters back. It’s not a reboot. It’s gonna be a different version, I guess, so I’m excited for you guys to see it, ‘she said.

The original series launched in 2007 when Gomez was just 15, centering on the Russo family, who are all wizards living in the Greenwich Village area of New York.

Each of the siblings must complete training and determine which will become the sole wizard in the family, with the others relinquishing their powers.

Gomez’s Alex did become the wizard in the family, which will seemingly come into play when introducing new characters.

The show follows Justin, who has left his powers behind as an adult, with a wife and two sons.

A mysterious incident at WizTech leads to a powerful young wizard Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) showing up at Justin’s door, in need of his training.

The cast also includes Alkaio Thiele as Justin’s oldest son Roman and Mimi Gianopulos as Justin’s wife, Giada.

Gomez starred alongside Henrie and her other on-screen brother Max (Jake T. Austin), though it’s unclear if he’ll be back, or if their on-screen parents, Jerry (David DeLuise) and Theresa (Maria Canals-Barrera) will also be back.
