Selena Gomez’s mom defends her frequent social media breaks: ‘Whatever she needs’

Selena Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefey, has come to her defense following the backlash she’s received for taking frequent breaks from social media.

“It’s just whatever she needs for that time period,” Teefey told Elite Daily Thursday about what length of time her daughter prefers to step away from social media.

“I can go a week without looking at any social media, and then I’ll get on there and I’ll try to catch up,” she added.

“But it’s just whatever time Selena needs, she gives herself.”

Teefey, 47, commented on the matter while discussing Wondermind, the mental health network she co-founded with the “Single Soon” singer in 2022, which is meant to destigmatize mental health and provide easy access to resources to those who need it.

She even told “Good Morning America” in 2022 that she felt the best she ever had mentally after taking a nearly five-year break from being online.

“It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people. I understand how powerful the internet is, and in so many ways it’s done the best things for the world,” she explained.
