"You're just going to have to disappear": X-Men Origins: Wolverine is Not the Movie Lynn Collins Blames for Ruining Her Career

Lynn Collins is famous for playing iconic roles in John Carter, The Walking Dead, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, she faced significant disappointment with her role as Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Helium in John Carter. The film had a devastating effect on her career because it was a disaster.

The film was a box office failure, losing Disney’s $200 million. And it still remains Disney’s most striking financial loss to date. Critics considered the film watchable but said there’s nothing to be wowed about it. No matter what they say about the film, it nearly destroyed the lead actress’s career.

John Carter Nearly Ended Lynn Collins’ Career

In a recent article from The Wrap, the cast and crew members of John Carter were interviewed. They were asked about their thoughts about the flop film they did back then in 2012. The most upsetting story came from Collins’ side. While the flop disheartened many actors, the failure almost ended her career.

As per Collins, the night after the film’s premiere, her manager asked her “to disappear” because she’s “the one who’s going to get the heat for this.” She added:

“It was so indicative of that stereotypical, the woman gets the brunt. Like really sh–ty. Taylor went on to continue to work, he did ‘Battleship’ and other things, but basically my people shelved me for a while. This is so devastating because it wasn’t just the film disappointing me, now it was the entire industry and my representation. And I ended up firing those people. It took like a year for me to do that, but I took a break and tried to figure out, up until then my career and my work, I really allowed it to define me.”

The actress revealed that she faced a setback after John Carter’s failure. Her agency shelved her while her co-star Taylor Kitsch continued working. Not only the film but the whole industry proved to be a huge disappointment for her. But a year later, Collins parted ways with that disappointment and realized that she didn’t want her career to define her.

It’s no doubt that Lynn Collins is a great actress who’s graduated from Juilliard’s Drama School. But John Carter wasn’t the first time she was in a hornet’s nest. Her career was almost done and dusted when she starred in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Collins played Kayla Silverfox—Wolverine’s mutant love interest. But it proved to be a huge failure for her.

As per one of the IMDb reviews, “This is a very easy film to skip, as it just doesn’t fit into the X–Man world.” Although being a professional actor generally means that fame is inevitable. But Collins has struggled with it. Despite loving her job and appreciating those who made her famous, the actress is not sold on the idea of fame itself.
