Deadpool 3 Cameos Were 'Easy' to Get, According to Director

Deadpool & Wolverine star Hugh Jackman says it was fulfilling to finally don the comic-accurate iconic yellow-and-blue costume.

“We almost did [the comic-accurate suit] in The Wolverine,” Jackman said in an interview with Empire. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me… It’s great for Deadpool to have someone who will punch him in the face.”

Since the beginning of Fox‘s X-Men movie franchise, the filmmakers dismissed the use of the classic X-Men costumes in favor of Matrix-inspired black leather outfits. Though later installments such as X-Men: First Class found ways to incorporate more comic-accurate looks for the characters, Jackman’s Wolverine never had the opportunity to wear his signature attire. The closest the actor came to putting on Wolverine’s cowl was in the James Mangold-directed The Wolverine in 2013 where a deleted scene teased his yellow-and-brown attire.

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy says he made it his mission to consult with the biggest Marvel nerds to create the classic Wolverine costume for Jackman. “Like the rest of the world, I’ve waited two decades to see Wolverine in a whole movie with Deadpool, and I don’t know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right,” Levy said.

What is Deadpool & Wolverine about?
