This is the second year in a row that Jay Z has received an award from the organization GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).

Recently, GLAAD – the largest organization specializing in LGBT rights in the US – announced that it will award the Vanguard Award to Beyonce and Jay Z at the annual GLAAD Media Awards 2019 event. According to Deadline, action This is to honor the great contributions of Beyonce and Jay-Z in increasing the visibility of the LGBT community and promoting equality in society.

Previous winners include Britney Spears, Cher, Kerry Washington, Patricia Arquette, Janet Jackson, Charlize Theron and Jennifer Aniston.

Kate Ellis – president and CEO of GLAAD – wrote in a press release that “Beyonce and Jay Z are globally famous stars with a passion for protecting human rights as well as recognition for everyone”. In addition, she also said that “the whole world is inspired every time they speak” and “their statements have been clearly heard by the LGBT community.”

Beyonce has long been considered a star friendly to the LGBT community. She owns a huge fan base in this community. Furthermore, she has publicly supported homosexuals, organized a tribute to the victims of the Orlando shooting, and repeatedly brought images of LGBT people into her music videos. However, the interesting thing is that Beyonce has never been honored while this is Jay Z’s second consecutive year.

Last year, Jay Z was awarded the GLAAD Special Recognition Award for the song Smile – a song inspired by his mother, Gloria Carter. Not long ago, she publicly announced that she was gay. In addition, Jay Z is also recognized for helping LGBT artists such as Janet Mock and James Baldwin as well as his support for same-sex marriage.

The 30th GLAAD Media Awards will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on March 28.
