Steph Curry and his mother

Stephen Curry is one of the best basketball players in the world, known for his incredible shooting ability and leadership on and off the court. But even the greats had to work hard to get where they are, and for Curry, that journey began at a young age. In a recent interview, Steph revealed how his mother, Sonya Curry, changed his life forever with a motivational speech.

Steph revealed in a recent interview that while growing up, he didn’t get enough opportunities in his youth team. He was naturally talented and had incredible shooting skills, but what Steph lacked was the prime aspect of a basketball player, physique.

Curry had a poor performance in one of his AAU games when he was 13. In fact, He had 12 turnovers that game! This prompted his mother, Sonya, to sit down with her eldest son and have an honest to god conversation.

“My mom gave me a… I call it a motivational speech, now. But it was exactly how you explained it—something I didn’t want to hear at the time. She basically told me that nothing was going to be given to me.” Curry revealed what the warrior’s star’s mother said to her son, which completely changed his life.

The words of his mother seemed to have a powerful effect on a young Steph, as he began to put in more effort and determination on the court. His chance to shine came when NBA scouts took notice of him during his college years at Davidson College. In 2009, the Golden State Warriors selected him in the draft due to his outstanding potential and unparalleled shooting skills and the rest is history.

Curry’s journey is a testament to the importance of facing the truth, no matter how harsh it may be. His mother’s words were difficult for him to hear, but it was the push he needed to take control of his career and become the player he always dreamed of being.

Today, Curry is a four-time NBA champion, two-time NBA MVP, and eight-time NBA All-Star. He is one of the best shooters in the game, and he continues to inspire others with his work ethic and dedication.
